Drake Broadcasting System is Drake University‘s student-run broadcasting organization, providing School of Journalism and Mass Communication students with relevant broadcasting opportunities that prepare them to excel both at Drake and beyond. Our goal is to be a resource for students to get hands-on with all the exciting aspects of video and audio production, all while creating meaningful content that bridges the gap between campus and the community.

DBS operates a local radio station – KDRA-LP Des Moines, 94.1 The Dog – and offers video coverage for events at Drake University.

drake broadcasting lead thompson

Leah Thompson, President

I’m a senior Broadcast News Major and Leadership Concentration. I love broadcasting and can’t wait to do this as a career! If I’m not doing something related to broadcasting you would probably find me on my next adventure around the globe. Contact me if you want to get involved with DBS or want to learn more about the journalism field!

drake broadcasting gerry tetzlaff

Gerry Tetzlaff, Program Director

I’m a senior Broadcast News/History double major with a minor in marketing. This will be my third year of being Program director of 94.1 the Dog, which means I handle the day to day operation of Drake’s radio station. I love what I do, I don’t walk out of work smiling because I’m finally done, but because I actually had a great time doing it.

drake broadcasting autumn meyer

Autumn Meyer, PR and Marketing Coordinator

I’m a senior Writing and Digital Media Production major, in love with creating beautiful and useful things. For DBS, I operate our social media accounts and website. For me, I take photos, videos, write, design, play instruments and sing – preferably while exploring somewhere I’ve never been before.

drake broadcasting adam heater

Adam Heater, Video Producer

I’m originally from Indianola, Iowa, and I’m a Digital Media Production major. My dream job would be running social media for an NBA team or making sports documentaries for E:60 or 30 for 30. Fun fact: I received my Official Clowning License in 2015!

drake broadcasting noah manderfeld

Noah Manderfeld, Sports Director

I am a Broadcast News Major from Northfield, Minnesota. I have a big interest in sports, and love sharing my passion. A fun fact about me is that my Dad is a part owner of a Dairy Queen in Northfield.

drake broadcasting nick

Nick Gautille, Board Operations Manager

I am a junior Physics and Astronomy major and I help with keeping the radio station running smoothly and legally. In my free time I enjoy both writing and reading fantasy as well as playing video games. But nothing beats listening to some music outside on a cool night.

drake broadcasting tess julien

Tess Julien, Live Stream Producer

I double major in Digital Media Production and Computer Science. In DBS I operate live stream equipment for on-campus activities such as Student Senate. My dream is to create entertainment and educational content for families.
